Applying OUTLINES to Text

Font Outlines provide another way for you to create some amazing font effects!  Use the OUTLINE WIDTH slider to vary outline width.  Outlines can be single color, gradient, or patterned.  An opacity slider controls the opacity on your outline.

Using FIT CANVAS to enlarge your canvas

By clicking on the FIT CANVAS button above the layer bar you can stretch your canvas to fill the workspace when both the layer and main edit menus are closed.

iKoolr_Editor_Page_5_Image_2

The ZOOM Slider ZOOMS Your Canvas

Use the ZOOM slider control at the top of the canvas to zoom in on your design.  Hold the space bar and slide your mouse around to pan the canvas.

iKoolr_Editor_Page_6_Image_1

Adding Shadows

Open the Shadows menu by clicking “+”.  Shadows can be applied as single or gradient color treatments.  When working with gradients, there are five different orientation patterns available.  Double-click toggles the pattern direction.  The Brightness slider controls the color brightness on each gradient marker selected.  With KoolrPix you can easily apply shadows to both text and stamps to create professional looking results that are normally only available in the most advanced photo editing software applications.

iKoolr_Editor_Page_6_Image_2

Adding Patterns to FONTS

In addition to single and gradient fill effects, you can also select PATTERNS to fill your fonts.  Open the FONT OPACITY menu by clicking “+” and click on PATTERN from the Color Options icons.  Scroll though the wide range of pattern fills available and click to select.  Pattern fills work best when your text is large, with broad font face to display the pattern.  Use the zoom slider to enhance your pattern preview.

Adding STAMPS

iKoolr_Editor_Page_7_Image_1

Clicking on a stamp automatically adds it to the canvas.  To browse the entire stamp set in any category, hold down the LEFT MOUSE BUTTON and SLIDE your mouse UP/DOWN to scroll through the stamp set.

iKoolr_Editor_Page_7_Image_2

Working with the LAYER BAR

You can slide the stamp to any location.  Corner controls size the stamp proportionally, middle controls size the stamp non-proportionally.  The LAYER BAR enables you to edit the layer position of any object in your canvas.  Select the desired layer and click the UP/DOWN Blue Direction Arrows to move a layer forward/backward in the layer order.  With the stamp we have added, you can tuck the stamp behind all the other elements by moving it down the layer bar.

iKoolr_Editor_Page_8_Image_1

In a complex design with many elements the LAYER BAR is also a great way to select objects that are buried beneath other layers.  There are several tricks you can use to easily resize and position design elements that are buried behind other layers.

  • Lock all other layers.  The LOCK icon is GREEN when unlocked, and RED when locked.  Locking all other layers enables you to click on the canvas and only select your target layer.  You can then easily resize this layer.  Locking layers is also a good way to avoid inadvertently moving a layer you have already placed.
  • Another trick to easily select a layer hidden beneath another layer is to temporarily hide layers.  Clicking on the EYE icon of any selected layer, hides that layer on the canvas enabling you to select layers beneath it.  Clicking on the EYE icon again reveals the hidden icon.
  • Moving layers up the layer order, to a position where you can resize the element on the canvas, and then moving it back into its desired layer position is another way to easily edit an element on the canvas.

To DELETE any layer object, click the RED X and then confirm your desire to delete the selected object.

There is no limit to the number of layers you can apply to any Koolr design.

EDITING Stamps

To open the stamp editing menu, select the stamp on your canvas, and click EDIT STAMP

iKoolr_Editor_Page_9_Image_1

You can adjust the opacity of any selected STAMP using the Stamp Opacity SliderFlipping, Copying, and Deleting a selected stamp are also available options from the EDIT STAMP menu.

iKoolr_Editor_Page_9_Image_2

You can also create very KOOL stamp shadows.  Click on the “+” to open the Shadow intensity menu.  You can adjust the slider controls for shadow intensity, blur, and spreadClick and hold the Positioning icon and slide the shadow to the desired position.

You can set your shadow colors to be a single color, or a multicolor gradients.  The BRIGHTNESS slider controls the overall color brightness, from very dark, to very bright.  When selecting gradient shadow colors, you can have as many gradient colors as you like.  Click anywhere on the gradient bar to add new markers.  To delete a gradient color, click on its marker and hold & drag (up or down) away from the gradient bar.  There is really no limit to how creative you want to be with your stamp shadows.

iKoolr_Editor_Page_9_Image_3

KoolrPix Greeting Card and Montage Templates

iKoolr_Editor_Page_14_Image_3

The muffin stamp in this template can be unlocked to enable custom sizing and positioning within your design.  Clicking on the lock icon locks/unlocks the layer object.

iKoolr_Editor_Page_14_Image_4

Resize the muffin object and position it in your canvas.

iKoolr_Editor_Page_15_Image_1

Having Fun with KoolrPix CUTOUTS

You know how you’ve always dreamed of being able to “SHOP” an image like a real Photoshop expert?  But, you always thought it would be impossible to learn how to do it yourself and certainly well beyond your budget to even try.  Well, no more!  You’ve now got KoolrPix!

KoolrPix CUTOUTS are easy enough to create that anyone can do it!  It’s just like coloring.  Just stay within the lines and if you make a mistake, just erase and try again.  Sounds easy, doesn’t it?  It is!  And best of all, every CUTOUT you create becomes part of your own “MY Stamps” collection to use over and over again with all your Koolr design projects!

OK, let’s take a close look at KoolrPix CUTOUTS.

With KoolrPix CUTOUTS, you can import an entire image into your design, or you can paint a mask over just a portion of the image.  We’ll show you both techniques in this project.  First, let’s look at the BEFORE image and the Koolrized AFTER image we’re going to create.  It’s a modern day mashup of Johanne Vermeer’s Girl with the Pearl Earring (1665).

Before_After

To create this, we start by Googling “Johanne Vermeer Girl with the Pearl Earring” to find the original painting.  A high res version of the painting is the ideal starting point to create this mashup.  Save the image on your system and then click “Load Your Own Photo” in KoolrPix.

HomePage_B

Vermeer_02

We cropped the original image to a tighter crop focusing on the head and shoulders.  When you have the CROP size the way you want it, click the CUTOUT icon.

Next, we load a photo from our personal photo archive (younger sister taking a photo with her BFF’s).  Click on GET A PICTURE and load the image from your photo archive.

Vermeer_03

We’re going to select just a portion of the photo…the hand holding the smartphone.

Vermeer_04

With the CUTOUT custom crop area adjusted, click IMPORT to load your image into the CUTOUT module.

Select a mask color that will provide good contrast with the source image you will use to create your new stamp.  The brush slider determines the size of the brush strokes.  The feather slider determines the opacity of the brush strokes (great for creating a soft outline edge).  Select PAINT to begin painting your mask.  If you color outside your intended mask object, select ERASE and paint to erase.

Vermeer_05-1

PREVIEW will preview your CUTOUT stamp, removing the rest of the original image.  You can continue painting/erasing until you are happy with your new stamp.  Use the Zoom slider and vary the brush size to create very precise CUTOUT masks.

Vermeer_06

When you have completed painting your new CUTOUT stamp, click IMPORT.  If you mess up and want to start over, select CLEARNEW takes you all the way back to the beginning where you would re-load a source photo and start from scratch.

Once imported into your canvas, size and position the new CUTOUT stamp where you want it.

Vermeer_07

The next step is easy and it will almost finish our Vermeer mashup.  Click CUTOUT again and load the original Vermeer painting again.  This time, we’ll crop the area we want to include just the face.

Vermeer_08

Click IMPORT to load the face into the CUTOUT module.  This time, we want to import the ENTIRE IMAGE, so we don’t need to paint a mask.  We can IMPORT the entire image by clicking IMPORT.

Vermeer_09

Simply size and position the imported image into position on the phone’s screen.  We softened the opacity of the imported CUTOUT  to make it look more realistic.  The only thing left to do is create a small portion of the finger in the bottom left corner.

Vermeer_10

Click CUTOUT one last time and load the original photo with the hand and phone.  This time, we create a Custom Crop Area encircling just the finger.

Vermeer_11

Paint a quick mask over just enough of the finger to cover the corner of the phone’s screen.

Vermeer_12

Click IMPORT to add the finger then use the ZOOM slider to position and size the finger where it belongs.  If you use the OPACITY slider, the new finger can be easily sized and placed precisely over the original finger.  And you’re finished!  All that’s left is to SAVE your finished design and share it with your friends!

Vermeer_13

Now, wasn’t that EASY!!  Even Vermeer himself would approve of this mashup!
